About Me
About Me
Hi, I'm Aaronda Smith, and I have the absolute joy and honor of serving as the Reading Language Arts Honors 8th Grade Instructor at George Bannerman Dealey Montessori and Vanguard Academy. With over 17 years of experience in Dallas ISD, I’ve had the privilege of teaching both middle and high school students across a variety of enriching disciplines—including reading, debate, strategies for success, literary genres, and creative writing.
Teaching is more than just a career for me - it’s a calling. I believe every student, every colleague, and every person I encounter is placed in my life for a purpose. My mission is simple: to humbly serve each person God brings into my path and to ensure they leave my presence better, stronger, and more inspired than when they arrived.
Whether I’m guiding students through complex texts, helping them find their voice through writing, or encouraging them to see their limitless potential, my goal is always to nurture growth, confidence, and a lifelong love for learning.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Arts in Education Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix. Every degree, every lesson, and every challenge has helped shape the educator I am today.
Thank you for stopping by. I’m so glad you’re here ❤️.
To be honest, I gave my life to God, and that’s what saved my life. God gets the glory- forever. But for people who don’t have that foundation, having a teacher who does can help them navigate the world. That’s why this honor means so much. Teaching is not just what I do—it’s who I am. It’s how I serve.
Though rewarding, teaching takes a toll. I’ll admit, there were times I was sure this year would be my last—especially after seeing scores lower than usual. But this recognition reminded me of something powerful:
“The Teacher of the Year award is a testament that the system does not determine your ability as a teacher.”
In 2022, I was deeply honored to be recognized by Dallas ISD as a Teacher of the Year Finalist at the inaugural Educator of the Year Awards, presented by the Dallas Education Foundation and sponsored by Reliant. Held at The Statler Ballroom, this event celebrated educators from across the district who have shown dedication, resilience, and impact in the lives of their students. The evening celebrated the heart and soul of our schools - our educators.
To be named among such passionate, hardworking teachers was truly humbling- and receiving this recognition during a time of such great challenge in education made it all the more meaningful. Alongside other honorees, I was awarded for my commitment to student success, academic excellence, and my efforts to create a classroom environment that empowers and uplifts.

" More than the award itself, what I treasure most is the daily opportunity to do what I love—serve, teach, and inspire. Every student, every lesson, and every breakthrough moment affirms why I chose this path. The honor of being recognized as one of the district’s top educators only motivates me further to continue giving my very best to the students and families I serve.
